Old'e Town Piedmont barn.

Hello, Canadian County!

A playground addition gets a different kind of welcome than a ribbon cutting: the children can get straight to using it. That's already happening at Northwood Elementary, where Piedmont's school district shared photos and a thank-you to the foundation that helped fund the new equipment.

There's a ribbon cutting on the calendar, too, with Blossom & Bliss Boutique celebrating in Yukon Friday morning. Below, you'll find that address, an update on Sara Road sidewalk work, and a statewide honor for Mustang's city manager. The week's library plans range from making a tote bag to reading with a therapy dog, with a few different ways to spend an afternoon.

THE DIGEST

🚧 Sara Road sidewalk work has a Friday target

The Gist: Yukon's Street Department is working on the sidewalk from 4517 Sara Road north to Von Elm Place, and the city's notice gives Friday, Sept. 25 as the expected completion date for this portion of the project. That's a target date, rather than an announcement that the work is finished.

Why It Matters: For anyone traveling along that stretch, the city's project notice identifies where crews and equipment may still be present. It also gives nearby residents a date to watch as this part of the sidewalk work wraps up.

🛝 Northwood students have a new place to play

The Gist: Northwood Elementary's playground has a new addition, and students are already using it. In its Sept. 21 announcement, Piedmont Public Schools thanked the Piedmont Public Schools Education Foundation for grant funding that helped make the addition possible. The district's photos show children playing on yellow stepping platforms beside the school.

Why It Matters: The foundation's support has become something children can use during their school day. For Northwood families, the photos offer a look at the new play space and the local support behind it.

🏅 A statewide honor for Mustang's Tim Rooney

The Gist: Mustang City Manager Tim Rooney was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame for City and Town Officials on Sept. 17, according to the city's announcement. Mustang shared the news Monday, along with a photograph of Rooney, Vice Mayor Sholund and Mayor Michael Ray.

Why It Matters: The honor recognizes contributions to Oklahoma's city and town governments, with public service and ethics among its selection criteria. It puts a Mustang official's work in statewide company. Congratulations, Mr. Rooney!
